Chopra comes into the meet as the defending champion thanks to his throw of 88.67m at the event last year, which earned him the top spot ahead of a star-studded lineup that included the likes of Anderson Peters of Grenada and Jakub Vadlejch of Czech Republic.
Jena has a personal best of 87.54m while Chopra’s all-time best is 89.94m, which is also the national record.
Following the event in Qatar, Chopra is set to headline the National Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships to be held in Bhubaneswar from May 12 to 15 as he is slated to compete on home soil after three long years. Jena will also be seen in action in the domestic event.
Chopra will go on to compete at the Paavo Nurmi games in Finland following the Championships at home.
The champion athlete will target breaching the coveted 90m mark this year after having knocked on the door consistently.
