Nashik: City of Dhule. became the first urban center of Maharashtra To get the Covid-free tag, only villages in the state have earned anything so far. North Maharashtra city has a population of 3.75 lakhs.
State surveillance officer Dr Pradeep Awate confirmed to TOI that Dhule is the only city in the state with no active cases. “In many other cities, there is a steady decline in active cases, but they have not stopped yet,” he said.

“The city was one of them covid Hotspots in the district during the second wave of the pandemic. Although there were fewer deaths during the second wave, the total number of people who tested positive in Dhule city was much higher than in the first wave,” Patil said.
During the second wave, Dhule city recorded 11,053 positive cases against 7,116 in the first wave. While 88 Kovid patients succumbed in the city during the second wave, there were 173 deaths in the first wave.
Dr Mahesh More, Chief Medical Officer, Dhule Municipal Corporation said that the city had active cases in single digits for the past few weeks. “But we continue to do 300-500 tests daily,” he said.
In all, there are four active cases in Dhule district, all from Sikri, of whom three are in home isolation.
In all, there were 72,810 active cases in the state on Wednesday night. Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Satara Solapur, Ahmednagar The districts have more than 5,000 active cases. In contrast, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Washim, Amravati and Hingoli districts have less than 100 active cases.
