As incidents of unruly behavior continue, aviation regulator Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued an advisory to airlines to take strict action against unruly passengers to ensure flight safety.

Besides this, the aviation regulator advised the heads of operations of all airlines to sensitize their pilots, cabin crew and postholders to deal with unruly passengers through appropriate methods.

According to the advisory, there are provisions under the Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) for the action to be taken by the airline to deal with unruly passengers and the responsibilities of pilots, cabin crew members and director of inflight services have also been mentioned in the CAR. ,

Airlines will classify unruly passengers into these categories

Airlines will categorize all such unruly passenger behavior into three levels and such people may face flight ban for varying durations.

  • Level 1 – Uncontrolled behavior such as body language, verbal abuse and uncontrolled drinking.
  • Level 2 – Physically abusive behavior such as pushing, kicking or sexual harassment.
  • Level 3 – Life-threatening behavior such as damage to aircraft navigation systems, physical violence such as suffocation, and felonious assault.

An internal committee constituted by the airline concerned may decide the period for which an unruly passenger may be banned from flying.

Air India offloaded passengers who misbehaved with the crew

Earlier in the day, Air India offloaded a passenger from its Delhi-London flight after the passenger allegedly got into a mid-air scuffle with the flight’s crew members. Delhi-London (AI-111) flight overturned due to ‘unruly’ passengers on board. The airline has lodged a complaint against the passenger with the Delhi Airport Police. As per the latest updates, the passenger is currently at PS Delhi airport.

Drunk passenger tries to open emergency window of Indigo flight

Earlier in an IndiGo flight, an inebriated passenger tried to open the emergency door flap. According to the airlines’ official statement, a 40-year-old passenger on board an IndiGo flight tried to open the emergency door flap of the aircraft on a Delhi-Bengaluru flight at around 7:56 am on Friday (April) in an inebriated condition. 7). The matter was reported to the concerned agencies and the passenger was handed over to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials after the plane landed in Bengaluru.
