Delhi weather forecast: Rain, hailstorm to lash national capital next week amid cold wave, says IMD

New Delhi: According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is a possibility of light to moderate rain and hailstorm with a speed of 50 kmph in Delhi. According to IMD, an active Western Disturbance has been predicted to observe over Northwest India from January 21 to January 25. “Under its influence, rain/snow is predicted to commence over western Himalayan region in the early hours of January 21 and continue till January 25 with peak activity on January 23-24,” according to a statement by the agency.

Cold wave prevailed in Delhi as the city’s base station Safdarjung Observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 2.4 degrees Celsius. It was a few notches warmer than Monday’s low of 1.4 degrees Celsius, the lowest temperature for the entire month since January 1, 2021. The India Meteorological Department estimates that on January 18 and January 20, two possible western disturbances will cause cold. The wave condition over Northwest India will end on January 19.

This year all the previous records of cold wave were broken and the temperature dropped to 1.9 degree Celsius. The record low of minus 0.6 °C was set on January 16, 1935.
