New Delhi: The Delhi Prisons Department will soon launch a new initiative to provide professional training to jail inmates. Tihar Jail in various Playofficials said on Sunday.

Jail officials said that this is the first time that inmates of Tihar Jail will be trained in sports with the help of coaches in a more professional and scientific manner.
Under this initiative sponsored by Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) as part of its CSR project, prisoners will be trained in six sports – warehouse warehousevolleyball, badminton, Basketball, Chess and Carrom, They said.
According to the jail administration, IOCL will send professional coaches twice a week to Tihar to train the inmates interested in each of these selected sports.
A senior prison official said they would also provide necessary sports equipment and jerseys for 20 inmates in each game.
Director General (Delhi Jail) Sandeep Goel said that the prisoners would soon be trained by professional trainers in various sports in collaboration with IOCL.
He said, “Such activities will help in creating a positive and healthy environment inside the jail. It will direct their energy in a positive direction and most importantly it will help in keeping themselves physically and mentally fit and healthy. will help.”
Jail officials said that interested inmates and those who are already trained in such sports will be trained by professional trainers so that they can engage other prisoners in these sports.
He said that the women prisoners lodged in Central Jail No. 6 would be given training in badminton, chess and carrom.
It will also help these inmates to train the inmates of Enhtihar professionally in sports under the new initiative of Delhi Jail Department.

Jail officials said the total number of inmates and staff in the three jails is 17,100. He said seeing his performance in his annual inter-prison sports competitions.
