Delhi Police has upgraded its online citizen services and started providing automatically generated updates regarding investigation of its cases. Apart from registering the FIR as directed by Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana, the complainants will now also be informed about the arrest of the accused and filing of charge sheet or closure report through SMS and e-mail.

When there are multiple accused, an update will be sent on the arrest of each accused, as and when they are arrested. When an FIR is registered, the complainant has to mention his/her mobile number or email address wherein updated information can be given regarding registration of FIR and investigation or handing over of charge sheet/final report to the investigating officer.

The development comes after Asthana directed Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) Devesh Srivastava to regularly update the complainants on the progress of investigation at various stages.

Since the upgrade of this online service, 4,654 messages have been sent to the complainants regarding lodging of FIRs, while 4,807 messages have been sent for arrests. Similarly, out of a total of 1,1376 automatically generated messages, 1,485 messages have been sent to inform the complainants about the submission of the final report.
