Delhi Police registers FIR over fake viral video of cabinet meeting inciting communal disharmony

New Delhi: In connection with the tampering of the video of the cabinet meeting doing the rounds on social media, the Delhi Police has registered an FIR against the criminals who allegedly changed the audio to make it sound like some political leaders on the removal of Sikhs. were insisting. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) KPS Malhotra, head of IFSC (Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations) – Delhi Police’s cyber cell unit – said the police have registered a case and identified two handles who had shared the distorted video earlier. .

“The morphed video was circulated with the wrong intention of promoting enmity and inciting communal disharmony. People behind the video have tried to show that the meeting was against the Sikh community. Actually, the video was of the cabinet committee meeting which took place after the death of the first Chief of Defense Staff General. Bipin Rawat, The video of the meeting is available on news portals and social media platforms. We have registered a case, identified two handles, and are proceeding with the investigation,” said DCP Malhotra.

Meanwhile, one of the Twitter handles of the government, PIBFactCheck, which counters misinformation on policies and schemes, also tweeted, “A tweet referring to a viral video that claims #Cabinet on security In the committee meeting, a call was made to remove the Sikhs. Indian Army. #PIBFactCheck Claim is #Fake there is no such discussion/meeting”.

According to news agency ANI, Malhotra said, “In this regard, a case has been registered by Delhi Police and investigation has been started. The Twitter accounts that started promoting this video are @simrankaur0507 and @eshalkaur1.”

The DCP said that such act of promoting enmity/enmity between different groups on grounds of religion is prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony and may cause breach of public peace and is an offense under Section 153A of the Indian Penal Code.

Delhi Police further advised the general public not to believe such videos and do a proper fact check before sharing it on social media.

Rawat, a resident of Pauri Garhwal in Uttarakhand, died in a helicopter crash on December 8 near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu along with 13 others including his wife Madhulika Rawat. (ANI)
