On Monday (April 8) morning in Delhi NCR, people woke up due to rain. Dust storm accompanied by light rain occurred in some parts of Delhi-NCR. The India Meteorological Department has predicted rain and dust storms in the region as a cyclonic circulation lies over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea.

The Meteorological Department said that under the influence of the cyclonic circulation, a low pressure area is likely to form over the region on Monday.

The India Meteorological Department on Sunday said details of its path and intensity would be provided once the low pressure area is formed.

Fishermen and small vessel, boat and trawler operators are advised not to venture into southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Andaman Sea from Sunday and over southeast and central Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea from May 9. Do not go to adjacent areas.

Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation, the IMD said, “a low-pressure area is very likely to form over the region on May 8 and it is very likely to intensify into a depression” over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea. around 9 May.

“Thereafter, it is very likely to move nearly northwards into a cyclonic storm over central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea,” the IMD bulletin said.

“The details of its (likely cyclone) path and intensity will be provided once the low pressure area is formed. IMD Director General G Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said, the system is under constant watch and monitoring is being done regularly.

The weather office also said that the sea condition is very likely to be “very rough to high” over southeast and adjoining central Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea from May 10 to May 12.

The IMD bulletin said, “People who are in southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea are advised to return to safe places and people in central Bay of Bengal and north Andaman Sea from May 9.” It is advisable to return earlier.”

It also suggested regulation of tourism and offshore activities and shipping near Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the period May 8-12.

The IMD said that under the influence of the system, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at most places between May 8 and 12.

Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph very likely over southeast Bay of Bengal, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and adjoining Andaman Sea on 7th and 8th May.

Meanwhile, the Odisha government has put 18 coastal and adjoining districts on alert in view of the IMD’s forecast. The collectors of the concerned districts have been asked to keep a watch on the IMD forecasts.
