Delhi Metro shuts three stations on Yellow Line on June 26

Three stations of Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line – University, Civil Line and Vidhan Sabha – have been closed for commuters between 10 am and 2 pm on Saturday, June 26. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) took to Twitter to announce the temporary closure of these three stations. The DMRC said the decision was taken in view of the “security reasons” given by the Delhi Police.

“As per the advisory of Delhi Police, due to security reasons, three metro stations of Yellow Line, University, Civil Line and Vidhan Sabha will remain closed for public tomorrow i.e. 26.06.2021 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Saturday),” tweeted DMRC on Friday.

This decision is being seen as a precaution in view of the protest of the farmers. Agitating farmers have decided to hold demonstrations outside all Raj Bhavans across the country to mark the completion of seven months of protesting against three agriculture bills.

“June 26, 1975, was a dark day in the history of India as the government declared emergency on this day. The present situation is not far from it. It is like an undeclared emergency,” Inderjit Singh, vice-president of the All India Kisan Sabha in Haryana, was quoted as saying by Taksal.

Farmers have planned to celebrate this day as ‘Save Agriculture, Save Democracy Day’.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Metro resumed its services earlier this month after another shutdown due to the second wave of Covid-19. DMRC resumed services with 50 per cent seating capacity and said no standing passenger would be allowed in the metro. The Delhi Metro has since increased the frequency of its trains, but long queues outside many stations have now become a common sight.

However, DMRC said that it is running 5100 trips daily to meet the growing demand amid the unlocking.
