Delhi MCD Election Voting LIVE: Counting of Votes to Start at 8 am, 42 Centres Set Up, Over 10,000 Police Personnel Deployed

This election is being described as a triangular contest between AAP, BJP and Congress. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has 250 wards and 1,349 candidates are in the fray in this election.

“We are ready for the counting of votes tomorrow, for which 42 centers have been set up,” he said. The counting of votes will take place amid tight security. While exit polls on Monday predicted a comprehensive victory for the AAP after 15 years of BJP rule, the saffron party remains hopeful. In the 2017 civic polls, the BJP had won 181 of the 270 wards. Voting could not be held in two seats due to the death of the candidates. AAP had won 48 wards and Congress 27. The voting percentage that year was around 53.

The highest voting percentage (65.72) has been recorded in ward number 23. 5 (Bakhtawarpur), while the lowest (33.74 percent) was recorded in ward number 145 (Andrews Ganj).

Barring a few sporadic incidents of violation of the MCC (Model Code of Conduct) and “a few other sporadic incidents of impersonation”, the polling was peaceful and no untoward incident was reported from anywhere, the SEC said in a statement on Sunday. night.

As per the data shared by the SEC on Monday, 51.03 per cent male voters exercised their franchise, while 49.83 per cent female voters exercised their franchise in the polls to the vital body.

The authorities had set up 13,638 polling booths across Delhi for the exercise. This was also the first civic poll in the national capital after the February 2020 riots in Delhi, and 3,360 booths spread over 493 locations were identified in the sensitive or sensitive categories, according to data shared by officials.

This was the first election this year after the delimitation process after Delhi’s three corporations – NDMC, SDMC, and EDMC – were subsumed into the MCD.
