Delhi Court rejects Olympian Sushil Kumar’s bail in Chhatrasal Stadium murder case

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Tuesday refused bail to Olympic medalist wrestler Sushil Kumar in the Chhatrasal Stadium murder case.

Additional Sessions Judge Shivaji Anand, after hearing the arguments of the prosecution and the defence, refused to grant relief to Kumar.

The Olympian had sought relief in the case, saying the police had made up a false case and projected her “guilty image”.

Opposing Kumar’s bail plea, the prosecution said the accused hunted the 27-year-old wrestler “like a wild animal hunt”.

Kumar’s lawyer Pradeep Rana said the police officers who had been witnesses in the case gave their statements after an unexplained delay.

Kumar, who was earlier arrested on May 23, has been in jail since June 2.

The 38-year-old wrestler, along with others, had allegedly assaulted former junior national wrestling champion Sagar Dhankhar and his friends at Chhatrasal Stadium in May over an alleged property dispute.

According to the postmortem report, Dhankhar, who later died due to injuries, died due to brain damage caused by the impact of a blunt object.

Delhi Police has charged 13 accused, including Olympic medalist wrestler, under sections 302 (punishment for murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 147 (punishment for rioting) and 120 (b) criminal conspiracy, along with other sections of the Indian Penal Code. has been filed. Code (IPC).

There are 155 prosecution witnesses in this case.
