Delhi acid attack: 17-year-old acid attack survivor is able to see, says family

New DelhiThe family of a 17-year-old acid attack survivor said on Thursday that the girl’s eyesight has not been affected and according to doctors, the injuries on her face will also heal with time. Minutes after she left her home for school in West Delhi on Wednesday, two bike-borne masked men threw acid on her, leaving her critically injured. The victim’s uncle said that she is still in the ICU of Safdarjung Hospital.

“The doctors at the hospital said that the burns on the face would heal, but it would take time,” he said. The girl had also sustained injuries in her eyes in the attack allegedly perpetrated by her neighbor Sachin Arora. The uncle said, “Her vision is not affected. She is able to see and speak.”

Three people – prime accused Sachin Arora and his two friends Harshit Agarwal (19) and Virender Singh (22) – have been arrested. As outrage spread over the attack, many also questioned the availability of acid in the markets despite the ban.

Special Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, Sagar Preet Hooda had said on Wednesday that the acid used in the attack was procured through an e-commerce site and the payment was made through an e-wallet by Sachin Arora.

In a statement, the police said that on the basis of technical evidence, it was found that the acid was procured from Flipkart, to which the police has also issued a notice. Flipkart said it strongly condemns the “unfortunate incident” and “our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and her family.”

“Flipkart Marketplace closely monitors and removes products that violate expected standards. Strict action is taken against sellers who are found engaged in selling illegal, unsafe and prohibited products. Blacklisting the concerned seller has been given, and we are extending all our support to the authorities in their investigation, the e-retailer said in a statement.
