Decision to lift restrictions not wise, mask order should continue: Covid task force warns states

new Delhi: Dr Sunila Garg, member of Lancet Commission and COVID-19 Task Force, said on Saturday that sudden easing of COVID-19 appropriate behavior and other related limits is not good as the pandemic is not over.

“Masks mandatory in crowded places should continue. Since everyone is tired of wearing masks, more people will leave them than not fined them, which is not good because the pandemic is not over yet. Some of the world There is a risk of another outbreak in parts.”, Dr Garg was quoted by IANS in its report.

According to Dr Garg, there should be an integrated strategy to lift the limits of Kovid.

“Masks not only prevent covid infection, but it also prevents other airborne infections, pollution and other respiratory diseases. Masks should be continued”, she said.

According to Dr Garg, the removal of mask rules would lead to a significant spread of tuberculosis and drug-resistant tuberculosis, as such cases were kept under control for the past two years due to the masks.

Despite the rapid increase in the number of Kovid infections across the world, there is a downward trend in India. States such as Maharashtra, Delhi, Telangana and West Bengal have indicated that the Covid-19 rules will be relaxed starting April.

In an order issued on Friday, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority said that no penalty will be imposed for not wearing masks in the national capital with immediate effect. However, it has advocated for its continued use in congested areas.

“Now DDMA has decided that it is appropriate for the public to wear masks in public places, however, no penalty shall be imposed for not wearing them till further orders,” the DDMA said in its official order.

Epidemiologist Dr Jacob John of CMC Vellore told IANS that a mask can reduce the risk of infection, but it cannot stop the second wave. A mask will not prevent the emergence of a new COVID variant.

“Fines are unfair ways to control people. Masks reduce respiratory secretions and protect people, but this should be recommended, not enforced”, he said.

Dr. John further added that it should be worn in busy environments as it not only protects against covid infection but also from pneumonia, allergies, pollution and many other diseases.
