Day After Arrest, ‘dacoit’ Killed In Police Firing | Guwahati News – Times of India

Guwahati: A 35-year-old ‘dacoit’ was killed in ‘police firing’ at Jorabat on the outskirts of the city early on Wednesday while allegedly trying to escape from their custody.
The deceased, identified as Govind Singh from North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, was arrested a day earlier for allegedly trying to snatch around Rs 3 lakh from a man, who had gone to a car showroom, in Basistha area.
Following the incident, the passers-by had caught him and handed him over to police.
Sudhakar Singh, DCP of Guwahati east police district, said, “During interrogation, Singh had confessed to have committed similar crimes earlier and had also said that he had hidden a huge amount of money somewhere in the Jorabat area.” He added, “A police team took him to Jorabat on Wednesday morning. In Dhantoli, which is nearby, the police stopped the vehicle when the accused said he had kept the stolen money there. On reaching the spot, he suddenly took out a weapon from somewhere and pointed it at the police team. At that time, police had to use minimum force to prevent him from attacking them.” Singh sustained bullet injury in the firing. He was rushed to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
