Daily Covid cases in India increased by over 2.5 times in just 4 days; Omicron infections nearly double

Official data shows that the number of fresh cases of corona virus in India has increased almost 2.5 times in the last four days, while the total cases of Omicron version have almost doubled. According to the data of the Union Health Ministry, 16,764 new cases of Kovid-19 were reported in the country on Friday. The number was just 6,358 on Tuesday, which increased to 9,195 on Wednesday and 13,154 on Thursday.

6,984 new cases of Kovid-19 were registered in India on 15 December and it was 6,563 on 20 December. On December 25, 7,189 new cases were reported from across the country.

Similarly, cases of Omicron, a new variant of COVID-19, are also rising rapidly and have doubled since December 28, according to health ministry data analyzed by CNN-News18.

The number of cases of Omicron is increasing rapidly. The first case of infection in India was registered on 2 December. While it took around 15 days for the number of cases to reach 100, it has been rising rapidly since then. On December 21, Omicron cases crossed the 200 mark and for the next two days, the cases reached 358. On 25 December, the tally was 415 and on 27 December it reached 578. On Tuesday, the Omicron cases in the country stood at 653 which rose to 1,270 on Friday.

As coronavirus cases continue to rise across the country, several states have started imposing restrictions to contain the spread.

Meanwhile, India’s active Covid-19 caseload is also rising. The active load has increased by more than 20 percent in the last four days. Health ministry data shows that on Tuesday, the active Covid-19 cases in India stood at 75,456, while on Friday it was 91,361.
