‘Curator Took My Input But Didn’t Provide the Pitch I Wanted’, Says Babar Azam After Rawalpindi Test

Pakistan captain Babar Azam said on Monday that the curator in Rawalpindi… Cricket Ground took his inputs but never provided the track he sought as the hosts lost the first Test against England by 74 runs.

England had declared the game with a target of 343 runs in over 100 overs leaving Pakistan, but the home side were all out for 268 on the final day.

The pitch was restricted by one and all after England scored more than 500 on the first day and scored seven centuries in the first two innings.

“Yes, I had a hand in preparing the pitch and we made it clear what we wanted but we didn’t get it due to weather or other reasons,” he said. But we wanted a track with some turn for the spinners,” Babar told the post-match conference on Monday.

The Pakistan skipper credited England for continuing to play with the same positive intent, but also mildly criticized their bowlers for their waywardness.

“We were hoping that they would continue to play against us like this. I think it becomes difficult as a captain when your bowlers are not hitting the right areas and runs are being scored on both sides of the wicket. But full credit goes to him for the way he batted in both the innings.”

He said, ‘It is never easy to come back after the opposition team has scored 500 runs on the first day, but I thought we batted well and came close to their score, but in the second innings our batsmen did not live up to the responsibility.’

Babar had no hesitation in admitting that it was disappointing to let such an opportunity to win a Test match slip away.

He said, ‘I thought we were in the match to win the match today till after lunch, unfortunately we lost wickets one after the other and it did not help.’ But Anderson and Robinson bowled well.”
