IPL 2021: Ruturaj Gaikwad scored a match-winning 88 off 58 balls, which eventually helped Chennai Super Kings defeat Mumbai Indians.

Ruturaj Gaikwad scored an unbeaten 88 off 58 balls to help Chennai Super Kings to 156 for six at 7/3, which ultimately proved crucial for the team. They beat Mumbai Indians by 20 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) resumed in the UAE as the 14th edition on Sunday following the suspension of the first leg due to the Covid-19 pandemic in India. Along with Gaikwad, Dwayne Bravo produced 23 blitzes in 8 balls to assist Chennai.

Gaikwad admitted that the performance was one of his best performances till date and knew he would have to finish it as Chennai Super Kings were under pressure.

“Obviously one of my top innings so far. With the pressure of the early wickets and with the seniors in the dressing room, I just had to grind and get the team to 130, 140 and then 150 was possible,” Gaikwad said in a post-match presentation.

“When Mahi bhai is around and with the CSK management, once they support you, you don’t have to think much,” he added.

Gaikwad, who made his India debut on the Sri Lanka tour, said those matches also came in handy.

“The Sri Lanka tour and the preparations coming here also helped,” Gaikwad said.

Gaikwad hit nine fours and three sixes during his crucial innings but said the wicket was two-way and it was not easy to bat on.

“Initially the ball was seaming and swinging so I had to take my chances against the spinners. Jaddu just came and I had to take my chance and it went well.”
