CPL 2022: Du Plessis joins St Lucia Kings, teammate Hasaranga in this squad

St Lucia Kings have announced their overseas signings for the 2022 Caribbean Premier League which starts on 31 August. Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis, who led Kings to a second successive Hero CPL final in 2021, will return for this season. He will be joined by Tim David, who was Mumbai Indians’ star in IPL 2022, and David Wiese, both of whom were instrumental in the Kings’ success during the 2021 season.

Du Plessis’ teammate at RCB and Sri Lanka leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga will join the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots this season in the CPL 2022. Also moving on to the Patriots is the very exciting South African batsman Dewald Brevis who has impressed for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.

The season will also see the return of Scott Kuggeleijn, who played for Kings in 2020, where he finished as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker in that season. The Kings have one more overseas position left to fill and that will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Kings will have six more spots to fill out the Hero CPL Draft, with details from these picks released during the draft show, which airs this Thursday July 7 – 9 a.m. Eastern Caribbean Time.

Hasranga will be available after the first few matches Patriots of the season and Pakistani off-spinner Qasim Akram will be with the franchise till his arrival. Akram led the Pakistan team that participated in the U19 Cricket World Cup in the Caribbean earlier this year.

South African all-rounder Dwayne Pretorius and Afghanistan leg-spinner Izharulhaq Naveed Hero will accompany the Patriots for their first appearance in the CPL. The Patriots have one more overseas space left to fill which will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Patriots will have five more spots to fill out the Hero CPL Draft, with details from these picks released during the draft show, which airs this Thursday – July 7 – at 9 a.m. Eastern Caribbean Time.
