COVID positivity rate not enough to ease restrictions: Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain

New Delhi: Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Wednesday said the positivity rate in the national capital has come down from 30% to 22.5%, along with a reduction in the total number of cases.

The Health Minister said that however, the positivity rate is not low enough to allow easing of COVID-19 restrictions in Delhi.

Jain said that there is not much space in hospitals and beds are also vacant, reported ANI.

“We are doing more tests in Delhi. With around 13,000 Covid cases today, the positivity rate will come around 24%,” he said.

Earlier on Tuesday, Delhi recorded 11,684 fresh cases and 38 more deaths due to COVID-19.

Delhi currently has over 78,000 active COVID-19 cases, of which 2,730 are hospitalised.

The Union Health Ministry has asked states and union territories to increase testing so that an effective track of the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic can be taken and immediate citizen-centric action can be initiated.

Aarti Ahuja, Additional Secretary, Union Health Ministry, in a letter, has advised states and union territories to pay immediate attention to this aspect and increase testing in a strategic manner keeping in mind the trend of case positivity in specific areas.

India’s active caseload, according to the Union Health Ministry, currently stands at 18,31,000.

Active cases stand at 4.83%, while the recovery rate currently stands at 93.88%.

Around 1,88,157 people have recovered in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 3,55,83,039.

The ministry said that 2,82,970 new cases were registered in the last 24 hours.

“Total 8,961” omicron The cases detected so far have increased by 0.79% from yesterday,” the ministry said.

The daily positivity rate is 15.13%, while the weekly positivity rate is 15.53%.

With the administration of more than 76 lakh vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has crossed 158.88 crores.
