Covid disruptions lead to Rs3.19cr loss for MIL last fiscal: RTI | Nagpur News – Times of India

Nagpur: The Covid-19 pandemic has adversely affected revenues of all organisations. Mihan India Limited (MIL), which manages the city’s Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, also suffered loss of Rs3.19 crore in financial year 2020-21 when the pandemic was at its peak. In 2019-20, the company had clocked revenues of Rs52.57 crore while in 2018-19, it was Rs118.97 crore.
In the current fiscal, MIL has earned Rs15.97 crore (unaudited) from April to December 31, 2021In response to RTI queries by senior activist Abhay Kolarkar, MIL duty manager informed that over 15.55 lakh passengers arrived and boarded flights from the airport from January 1 to December 31, 2021. Of them, 7.65 lakh were arrivals, and 7.90 lakh were departures.
The passenger numbers dropped alarmingly due to drastic reduction in flights during the pandemic. The lowest number of arrivals and departures were recorded in May 2021, when the Delta virus wreaked havoc in the country and only emergency flights were allowed to operate. Only 27,667 passengers used the airport in that month in comparison to 2.29 lakh in December the same year.
From January to December 2021, MIL earned revenue of Rs48.09 lakh from private aircraft and helicopters. It further earned Rs53.59 crore from landing, parking and commercial charges for various aircraft along with user development fee in the same period. The company incurred expenditure of Rs3.42 crore for maintaining security. However, no amount has been sanctioned specifically for the city airport by the central or state government.
The MIL manager further informed that their total employees strength is 129, with 118 posts filled up while 11 are vacant.
