Covid an Excuse to Stop Bharat Jodo Yatra:Venugopal

Venugopal, who is here to review preparations for the Jammu and Kashmir leg of the yatra, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is attending public meetings and flights are coming even from China.

The Congress on Tuesday alleged that the government was using Covid as an excuse to stop the Bharat Jodo Yatra, which is being led by the Long March. Rahul Gandhi Was gaining momentum with each passing day.

“We are very concerned about the health of the people of this country as well as the Covid situation. This whole drama (of Covid spread) is designed to stop the Bharat Jodo Yatra,” AICC general secretary KC Venugopal told reporters here.

Venugopal, who is here to review the preparations for the Jammu and Kashmir leg of the yatra, said the Prime Minister Narendra Modi Was participating in public meetings and flights were also coming from China.

“The flights are coming from China, no problem. There is no national level (COVID) protocol recommended by World Health Organization (WHO). The PM is attending public meetings and all other government programs are happening everywhere… no problem,” he said.

He said why the government is writing letters only to Rahul Gandhi while other programs are going on without any uproar.

He said, ‘The fair is going on in Gujarat, there is no problem in it. We will follow the protocol – recommended by experts – when it is issued by the government,” he said.

Venugopal said that he is satisfied with the preparations for the yatra in Jammu and Kashmir.

He said, ‘We interacted with the people of Jammu (yesterday) and today Kashmir. We are happy and satisfied with the preparations. It is going to be a great event.” He said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are eagerly waiting for this visit.

The senior Congress leader said the party has a special attachment to Jammu and Kashmir, as the party’s history is “very much intertwined with the history of Kashmir”.

he said during a meeting with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday, the latter assuring him of all cooperation for the yatra.

“This yatra is a national pad yatra. In Kashmir, we will hoist the national flag at our culmination,” he said.

Venugopal said that leaders of regional parties like National Conference and PDP would join the yatra in the Jammu and Kashmir phase.

“With each passing day, the impact of this visit is increasing. Lakhs of people have taken this journey,” he said.
