New Delhi: India recorded 9,111 new coronavirus infections, taking the country’s active caseload to 60,313, data from the Union health ministry showed on Monday. With 27 fresh deaths, the death toll also increased to 5,31,141. According to the health ministry, active cases now account for 0.13 per cent of total infections, and the national COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 98.68 per cent. With the daily positivity rate at 8.40 per cent and the weekly positivity rate at 4.94 per cent, the total number of Covid-19 cases has now risen to 4.47 crore.

Meanwhile, according to the daily health bulletin released by the Union Health Ministry, 10,093 new cases of corona virus infection were registered in the country on Sunday. According to the Health Ministry, the number of active cases in India currently stands at 57,542 which is 0.13 per cent of the total cases.
Mask made mandatory in Tamil Nadu’s Ranipet
Authorities in Tamil Nadu’s Ranipet have made wearing face masks mandatory in the district amid a surge in Covid cases in the state. District Collector S Valaramathi has also directed people to maintain social distancing in crowded areas.
However, the state health department has said that there is no need to panic as no large cluster has been observed in the state and the cases are mostly isolated. However, it has asked elderly people and those with co-morbidities to wear masks and avoid crowded places.

Dr. Sanjay Rai, Professor of Community Medicine at Delhi’s AIIMS Hospital, believes that at this time the booster dose of the vaccine can do more harm than good. Talking to ANI, Dr. Sanjay said, ‘Due to mutation in RNA virus, cases will keep on increasing and decreasing. This situation will remain the same in the coming times as well. There is no need to panic because of this. People who are infected with the new variant will develop immunity to the new disease. But more importantly, whether there is an increase in severity, hospitalization or mortality.
