Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday launched a veiled attack on the Samajwadi Party (SP), saying it is for the country to decide whether the sweetness of sugarcane will increase or the followers of Pakistan’s founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah will create havoc in the state. Adityanath hit out at the opposition while attending the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the Noida International Airport in Jewar area of Gautam Buddh Nagar in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He said that Uttar Pradesh is moving ahead on the path of development and highlighted the various efforts of the government. The BJP leader also thanked over 7,000 farmers who had given consent for the acquisition of their land for the airport without any dispute.
He said the ceremony was a “much-awaited” moment for western Uttar Pradesh and is significant as this is where farmers took the initiative to add sweetness to the region with sugarcane cultivation. Addressing the gathering, Adityanath said, “Some people had tried to associate the bitterness with a series of riots in the sugarcane sector of Uttar Pradesh. Now the country has to decide whether the sweetness of sugarcane will increase or Jinnah’s followers will do mischief. ” thousands.
SP leader and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav Last month, comparing Jinnah to Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Jawaharlal Nehru, he said that all of them helped the country get independence. His remarks were strongly criticized by others including the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Adityanath said that Uttar Pradesh is scaling new heights under Modi’s leadership, be it public welfare schemes that reach everyone without any discrimination or creating new infrastructure for development or respecting the faith of the people.
“The whole perception of Uttar Pradesh has changed that the state can progress and develop,” he said. Referring to various infrastructure projects worth thousands of crores in Noida and Greater Noida of Gautam Buddh Nagar, the Chief Minister said lakhs of employment opportunities would be created in this sector in the coming days.
He thanked the Prime Minister for “gifting” western Uttar Pradesh in the form of the Noida International Airport. The airport is being developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a subsidiary of Swiss concessionaire Zurich International Airport AG. The entire project has been planned over an area of 5,000 hectares at a cost of around Rs 30,000 crore and will make it Asia’s largest airport upon completion.
In the first phase of the project, over 1,300 hectares of land will be developed at a cost of over Rs 10,000 crore and the airport is scheduled to open by September 2024, according to project officials. Among those who attended the foundation stone laying ceremony were Gautam Buddh Nagar MP Mahesh Sharma, local MLAs Dhirendra Singh, Pankaj Singh and Tejpal, Union and state ministers.
