Coronavirus in India: Active COVID-19 cases drop to 30,799. Check fresh infections, deaths

new Delhi: India on Thursday reported 2,539 fresh COVID-19 cases, 4,491 recoveries and 60 deaths in the last 24 hours.

The new coronavirus infections took the total number of COVID-19 cases to 4,30,01,477, while the active cases rose to 30,799.

With the fresh deaths, the death toll rose to 5,16,132, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

Active cases comprise 0.07 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate is 98.73 per cent.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.35 percent while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 0.42 percent.

The number of people recovering from COVID-19 rose to 4,24,54,546.

According to ministry data, the cumulative COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has crossed 180.80 crore so far.

More than 2.6 lakh doses of the covid jab ‘Corbevax’ given to children aged 12-14 on the first day

According to the Union Health Ministry, more than 2.6 lakh children in the age group of 12 to 14 years received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine ‘Corbevax’ on the first day of the vaccination campaign for this age group on Wednesday.

Vaccination against COVID-19 in the age group of 12-14 years began on Wednesday with the biological E’s intramuscular vaccine Corbevax, as India celebrated National Immunization Day.

Two doses of Corbevax are to be given at an interval of 28 days.

As of March 1, 2021, there were 47 million children in the age group of 12 and 13 in the country.

Notably, over 2.15 crore (2,15,44,283) precautionary doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given to healthcare workers, frontline workers and people above 60 years of age.

The central government has asked states to conduct dedicated COVID vaccination sessions through designated centres. States have been asked to train vaccinators to avoid mixing of vaccines while vaccinating children in the 12-14 age group.

All people aged 60 years and above are made eligible for a precautionary dose of the COVID vaccine. Dosage prioritization and sequencing will be based on completion from nine months to 39 weeks from the date of administration of the second dose.

The countrywide vaccination campaign was launched on January 16, 2021, in which healthcare workers were vaccinated in the first phase. The vaccination of frontline workers started from February 2 last year.

The next phase of COVID-19 vaccination began on March 1 last year for people above 60 years of age and 45 years and above with specified co-morbid conditions.

India started vaccination for all people above 45 years of age from 1st April last year.

From May 1 last year, the vaccination campaign to immunize against the viral disease was expanded to those above 18 years of age.

The next phase of vaccination began on January 3 this year for adolescents in the age group of 15-18 years.

India began giving a precautionary dose of vaccines to healthcare and frontline workers and people aged 60 and above from January 10 this year.
