The Civil Aviation Ministry on Friday said that the construction of the Ayodhya airport is expected to be completed by September 2023. “The new airport will be suitable for handling A-320/B-737 type aircraft and is being developed at a cost of Rs. 350 crores (approx.),” the ministry said. The development work includes extension of the existing runway from 1500m X 30m to 2200m x 45m for operation of Code-C type aircraft under IFR conditions, an interim terminal building, an ATC tower, a fire station, car parking Includes new apron. “The new interim terminal building with an area of 6250 sqm is equipped to handle 300 passengers during peak hours. Passenger facilities include 8 check-in-counters, 3 conveyor belts (1 in departure and 2 in arrival hall), car parking For seventy-five cars and two bus parking. The airport will be PRM (passenger with reduced mobility) compliant,” it said.
The ministry further said, “The airport terminal building will have various sustainability features like double insulated roofing system, provision of canopies for energy savings, LED lighting, low heat gain double glazing units, rain water harvesting to recharge the ground water level, landscaping Well equipped.” A solar power plant with a capacity of 250 KWP has been provided to meet the GRIHA -V rating, along with the use of recycled water for fountains, HVAC, water treatment plant, sewage treatment plant and landscaping. The terminal has been designed to integrate the culture and heritage of Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh state, creating a sense of place for visitors.”

The façade of the terminal building (both on the city side and on the airside) reflects the temple architecture of the upcoming Ram temple in Ayodhya. The proposed terminal building portrays the grand Ram temple, which will provide a sense of spirituality to the visitors.
The architectural elements of the terminal are proposed to be decorated with spires of varying heights to convey a sense of grandeur to the structure. It noted that the terminal would have decorative columns to enhance the fascia of the terminal building, with distinct spires.
