The 76-year-old two-time MP passed away on Saturday in Phillaur, Punjab. The yatra was suspended for 24 hours after his death

Congress MP Santokh Singh Chowdhary, who died of a heart attack during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, will be cremated at his native village Dhaliwal in Jalandhar district on Sunday.

The 76-year-old two-time MP passed away on Saturday in Phillaur, Punjab. After his death, the yatra was suspended for 24 hours.

Choudhury fainted while participating in the march. He was taken to a private hospital in Phagwara, where he was declared brought dead.

Rahul Gandhi, who described Chaudhary as a hardworking leader and a strong pillar of the party, will attend the funeral. He met the victim’s family on Saturday.

Several leaders cutting across party lines, including Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal, expressed grief over Chaudhary’s death.

The Kanyakumari to Kashmir yatra led by Rahul Gandhi will resume from Khalsa College Ground in Jalandhar on Sunday afternoon. According to the program of the journey, this night will stay at Adampur.

The Punjab phase of the march began on Wednesday from Sirhind in Fatehgarh Sahib. In view of Lohri festival, the yatra came to a halt on Friday.

The yatra, which started from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu on September 7, will end in Srinagar by January 30, with Gandhi hoisting the national flag in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.

The march has so far reached Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
