NEW DELHI: Top Congress leaders on Sunday discussed the party’s strategy for the upcoming budget session of Parliament and decided to work in coordination with other like-minded parties to raise issues of public importance.
Congress Parliamentary Strategy Group meeting was held at party president Sonia Gandhi’s residence.
Rahul Gandhi was not present in the meeting. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also did not attend the meeting due to ill health.
Senior Congress leader AK Antony and Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury were also not present in the meeting.
The meeting took place hours before the crucial Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting this evening to discuss the party’s rout and defeat in the recently concluded assembly elections.
The Congress lost Punjab to the AAP and could not snatch any of the four other states – Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur – from the BJP.
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge told reporters after the meeting, “We discussed the issues to be raised during the session starting from Monday. We will discuss with other like-minded parties to raise issues of public importance during the session.” Will work in coordination with
He said, “Various issues to be raised during the session include evacuation and security of Indian students in Ukraine, inflation, unemployment, labor matters, MSP for farmers as promised by the government. We discussed all these issues in the meeting. ”
Others who attended the meeting included Anand Sharma, Jairam Ramesh, K Suresh, Manickam Tagore and Manish Tewari.
The Congress Parliamentary Strategy Group meeting is held before each session of Parliament.
The second phase of the budget session begins on Monday and will continue till April 8.
