Cong, Other Members In Bcc Cut Cake In Protest | Hubballi News – Times of India

Belagavi: The Belagavi City Corporation’s (BCC) elected representatives from the Congress, Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) and Independents on Tuesday cut a cake in an unusual protest to mark a full year gone in public office without taking the oath.
Last year, on September 6, the BCC elections were completed. In the House of 58 seats, the BJP got the majority with 30 seats. But elected members are yet to take charge officially as they have not been administered the oath. Although they have been elected by the public, they haven’t got power as the mayor has not been elected. The mayor has to administer the oath.
Fed-up with the delay, more than 20 elected members of the Congress, MES, AIMIM and Independents cut the cake on Tuesday. As BCC commissioner Rudresh Ghali did not allow them to bring the cake inside the building, the members cut it outside the building keeping it on a scooter.
The Hubballi-Dharwad and Kalburgi city corporations have elected their mayors and deputy mayors. Recently, KPCC working president Satish Jarkiholi blamed city BJP MLAs — Abhay Patil and Anil Benake — for delaying mayoral elections in the BCC.
AAP leader Rajkumar Topannavar tweeted: “Today BJP MLAs of Belagavi City complete 1 year as a mayor and deputy mayor, keeping corporators out of power. The BJP believes in minimum government maximum corruption.”
