Coimbatore: Coimbatore rural police launched on friday mobile application Called ‘sakko‘ (Safe Kovai) to stop burglary Feather locked house. People of Coimbatore district can download the mobile application from the Play Store and upload the details and photos of their closed houses.
The concerned police stations will receive the information through the mobile app and will cover the areas where the locked houses are located during day and night patrol to prevent vandalism in the house.
The technology based initiative was taken up by Coimbatore District Police and has been implemented by Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College, Vattamalaipalayam.
Superintendent of Police S Selvanagarathinam launched the app.
Addressing journalists, Selvanagarathinam said that there are more than 20 lakh people living in Coimbatore district police limits and police on patrol can collect details of maximum 300-350 locked house.
“Since 2019, 346 burglaries including house-breaking and commercial shops have been reported. In more than 90% of the cases, we had not received the closed house details from the residents concerned,” he said.
“People can download the mobile app from the Play Store. They have to register their mobile number and they will get One Time Password (OTP). Later, they can provide their address and details on the mobile app and should mention the details of their absence. They should also upload pictures of their homes. The District Police Control Room will receive the message and it will be sent to the respective police stations. The police will be given tablets with internet connection, and they will go to the spot and verify the details. Thereafter, the policemen who are on patrol during the day and night will visit the respective places and click pictures of the house and upload them on the app. Hence, residents of locked houses can monitor the details from anywhere,” Selvanagarathinam said.
He added that as of now, people who are using Android devices can download the app. It will be available for users of Apple devices (iOS) in a week. The mobile application is available in the English language and will soon include a Tamil language version.
The district police also provided other options for residents to save their homes from being demolished. “We have contracted some private companies to provide CCTV and alarm devices on rental basis. People can contact companies through district police control room and company will install 4 CCTV cameras, 4G connectivity, UPS facility in closed houses. The firm will charge Rs 900 per day and residents must use the facility for at least five days. Residents can also monitor CCTVs through their mobile phones,” said SP Selvanagarathinam.
Private companies are also providing alarm devices. Residents can rent alarm devices for at least five days. Four sensors including motion sensors will be installed at the doors, bureaus and other important places of the houses. Whenever someone tries to break into the house, the sensor will send an alert to four mobile numbers. Private companies are charging Rs 450 per day.
