CM Channi, local MLAs, administration involved in illegal sand mining: Farmer leader Gurnam Singh

Farmer leader Gurnam Singh has alleged a nexus between the Punjab government, police and administration in connection to illegal sand mining in Chamkaur Sahib.

“Local politicians from Chamkaur Sahib are involved (in illegal sand mining). CMs and MLAs are complicit in this. The administration and police are also involved in this issue. We haven’t seen proof of this connection but it must be probably linked to the Chief Minister and hence this has not stopped,” he said.

Gurnam Singh stated that protests were held and truckers did not show any paperworks related to sand mining.

“We asked for paperwork and staged protests. We stopped trucks and demanded proof but they did not have any papers. Everyday, 200 trucks would come here daily for sand filling and left the spot,” he said.

Gurnam Singh said that he and other villagers met Chief Minister Charanjit Channi, DSP and other top administration officials regarding the matter.

“We met the Chief Minister, DC and DSP to stop this illegal sand mining. Mining has been going on for more than a year,” he added.
