The farmer who climbed a 40 feet high electric tower in Samalkha, Panipat was brought down after 6 hours and 20 minutes in protest against the agricultural laws in the country’s capital Delhi and the lathi-charge on Bastara toll in Haryana’s CM City Karnal. BKU district head Sonu Malpuria and former sarpanch Anil Chhokkar made the farmer talk to farmer leaders Rakesh Tikait and Gurnam Singh Chaduni on the phone, after which he agreed to get down. The police has taken the farmer with him for his medical.

In protest against the lathi-charge on farmers in Karnal, 45-year-old farmer Jogendra, a resident of village Wazirpur Titana in Samalkha area, climbed 40 feet high power tower located at Samalkha Mandi at 10:30 am on Friday. Police-administrative officials reached the spot as soon as the information about the farmer climbing the tower was received. Samalkha SDM Vijender Hooda requested the farmer to come down with folded hands, but the farmer did not agree. The farmer’s mother and DSP Sandeep Singh also tried to convince him.

Sonu Malpuria, the district head of the Bharatiya Kisan Union and former sarpanch Anil Chhokkar got the farmer talked through the phone with the national spokesperson of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, Rakesh Tikaita and Haryana state president Gurnam Singh Chaduni. After which the farmer was brought down through Hydra.

After coming down, farmer Jogendra said that if Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Chandrashekhar Azad had become sannyasis instead of fighting for freedom at that time, then the country would not have been free today. Farmers are on the streets to claim their rights. This is his job. After this the Samalkha police station took the farmer to the hospital for medical.

Water, food and medicine given on the tower itself

When the farmer who climbed the tower for hours did not agree to come down, Sonu Malpuria, the district head of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, climbed the tower and gave him water. After this, at 3:11 pm, former sarpanch Anil Chhokkar gave water, food and medicine to the farmer.

Ambulance, fire department along with nets were also ordered

To avoid any untoward incident, the administrative officials along with the health department team have arranged for ambulances, fire brigade and nets. The power line to the tower has been cut. The officers kept trying to convince the farmer till 3.30 pm.

Farmer Jogendra’s brother Sandeep is working in Sonipat Vigilance. While the daughter is a constable in the Haryana Police. At present, the daughter’s duty is engaged in the ongoing farmers’ movement in Karnal. Brother Sandeep told that Jogendra is mentally ill. He is also undergoing treatment.
