The rapid spread of Omicron around the world has become a cause of concern for the people. Vaccines against Omicron were also found to be less effective in several studies, but there is good news from Russia. The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) reported that laboratory studies conducted by the Gamalaya Center showed that the Sputnik V vaccine and the one-shot Sputnik light booster were effective against Omicron, a new variant of the coronavirus.

Booster extends protection period
Heterologous boosting with Sputnik Lite is the solution to increase the potency of other vaccines against Omicron and this booster also prolongs the protection period. Sputnik Light Booster, taken 2-3 months after vaccination, significantly enhances Omicron virus neutralizing activity.

Quite effective on Delta and Omicron
The RDIF noted that the Sputnik light booster has been recommended to bolster the efficacy of vaccines against Omicron. Sputnik light boosting as well as heterologous boosting can strengthen and prolong the rapidly decreasing efficacy of many vaccines that can inactivate Delta and Omicron.

Sputnik Light Booster authorized in over 20 countries
Further added that Sputnik Light Booster is already registered in more than 20 countries. These countries include Argentina, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, the Philippines and San Marino, among others. At the same time, in some countries it has also been registered as a booster.

Sputnik V registered in India too
Sputnik V is also authorized in 71 countries with a total population of over four billion people. In India also Sputnik V is being applied to the people. RDIF is a Russian sovereign wealth fund established in 2011 for equity co-investment.
