The country’s first indigenously built passenger plane C919 successfully completed its first commercial flight on Sunday as China seeks to compete with Western rivals such as Boeing and Airbus.

This marked the official entry of the aircraft into the civil aviation market.

State-owned China Eastern Airlines operates the first commercial flight of the C919 from Shanghai to Beijing.

There were 128 people on board the aircraft.

The official Xinhua news organization reported that the flight time between Shanghai and Beijing was about two hours 25 minutes.

According to reports, when the plane landed at Beijing Capital International Airport at 12:31 pm on Sunday, it received a water salute.

The water salute ceremony is carried forward as an image of respect and pride for the aeroplane, its crew and passengers.

According to international airworthiness standards, the C919 is China’s first self-developed trunk jetliner. It also owns its own intellectual property rights.

The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) developed the C919, which received a type certificate from the Civil Aviation Administration of China last September.

Shortly thereafter, the C919 directed some practice runs in various areas to test its capabilities.

The C919 has been put through testing in various natural environments such as extreme cold, wind gusts and freezing.

Its environmental protection, reliability and security have all been thoroughly evaluated, Xinhua reported.

The first C919 aircraft was delivered to its first customer, China Eastern Airlines, on December 9, 2022.

According to the report, the C919 jetliner completed its 100-hour aircraft verification flight process after delivery, widely confirming its commercial operation-specific dependability.

Shanghai’s Science and Technology Commission reported that by the end of 2022, the C919 had received 1,035 orders from 32 customers.

According to officials, the entry of Chinese aircraft into the international civil aviation market could challenge Boeing and Airbus and reduce dependence on them.
