Center restricts export of COVID-19 rapid antigen test kits amid concerns of third wave India News – Times of India

New Delhi: The government on Monday banned the export of COVID-19 rapid antigen test kits at a time when several experts are warning of a possible third wave of coronavirus in the country.
A notification by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said, “The export of COVID-19 rapid antigen test kits has been placed in the restricted category with immediate effect.”
Now, exporters have to obtain license or permission from DGFT for shipping goods under restricted category. These restrictions will increase the availability of kits in the country.
Earlier, in May, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) had suggested the use of Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) kits for mass screening. also said that Mice Permission should be given in government and private health facilities in cities, towns, schools, colleges and community centers across the country.
The Indian Council of Medical Research also issued an advisory for COVID-19 home testing using rapid antigen kits. The spread of coronavirus in rural areas, where RT-PCR testing laboratories are not available, was the main reason behind this strategy.
According to central government data on August 4, there are some warning signs that India’s R number is showing above 1 for the first time since May. An R-value above 1 means that each COVID-19 infected person or person is infecting more than one person.
NS Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Said that 18 districts are seeing a rise in coronavirus cases, mainly in Kerala (10 districts), Maharashtra, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh.
