The Center on Friday extended the tenure of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Shaktikanta Das for three years.
An official statement said, “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has re-appointed Shaktikanta Das as the Governor of Reserve Bank of India for a further period of three years with effect from 10.12.221 or until further orders, whichever is earlier.” The appointment has been approved.”
Shaktikanta Das was appointed as the Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in December 2018.
Typically, RBI governors are given a five-year term with a third year opportunity for the government to change its mind. So, it is usually a 3+2 term.
According to a decision taken by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), Das, an IAS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre, will have a tenure of three years.
He retired as Economic Affairs Secretary last year and was later made a member of the 15th Finance Commission.
