Caesar’s Double Keys 11th Inning Rally, Mariners Top D-Back

PHOENIX: Kyle Seeger hit a go-forward, two-RBI double to spark an 11th inning rally and lift the Seattle Mariners 10-4 over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday to complete a three-game series sweep.

The Mariners are on a five-game winning streak and are in the race for the AL playoffs. Seattle is just three games behind Boston for the final wild card spot after losing to the Red Sox on Sunday.

Arizona has lost eight of its last nine. Seattle improved to 14-4 in a game of extra innings.

Seattle’s JP Crawford started 11th at second base and then Mitch Hanniger and Ty France walked one after the other to Taylor Clarke (1-3), who threw just three strikes off 13 pitches. Seeger slammed his base-loaded double down the right-field line, followed by RBI singles from Abraham Toro and Tom Murphy.

Jake Bauers added a two-run double and Hanniger had an RBI single to complete the blast of seven runs. In the 11th match, the Mariners sent 11 batsmen to the plate. Yohan Ramirez (1-2) scored 10th for the win.

Seeger’s crucial double for the veteran third baseman capped a stellar doubles day. They had two home players each with 3 runs in Saturday’s win.

The Diamondbacks took a 3-2 lead in the sixth when Pavin Smith brought home Josh Rojas with an RBI double. David Peralta grabbed the left center seats with a two-run homer.

The Mariners tied the game at 3-all in seventh when Toro took the lead with a double and eventually scored on double play.

The d-back scored three runs in the sixth before Seattle starter Chris Flexon delivered just one hit on a bunt single in the first five innings. Flexon bowled six innings conceding three runs. The right-handed batsman hit four fours, walked two and hit four fours.

D-back starter Tyler Gilbert conceded three runs in seven innings. This left-handed rookie allowed four hits, two walks and three hits.

The Mariners jumped 2–0 in the fourth inning when Hanniger walked and France singled out to open the innings. Seeger then arrived to load the bases on a defensive mental fault by D-back first baseman Pavin Smith, who threw home to stop Hanniger, who was making a charge below the baseline and then came back into third. .

Toro then brought Heniger home on a fielder’s pick and Tom Murphy made it 2-0 on his sacrificial fly which scored France.

Peralta’s homer was his 97th with Arizona, which is tied with Miguel Monteiro, the eighth all-time catcher in d-back history. Peralta also surpassed Steve Finlay in batting with a D-back for fourth place in his career.

11 years in the making

The Diamondbacks added Henry Ramos to the active roster and sent Stuart Fairchild to Triple-A Reno. Ramos had never played in the major leagues. The 29-year-old has played 11 minor league seasons.

He singled out in his first at-bat on Sunday, hitting a line drive single in the middle.
