CAA News Live Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government on Monday announced the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
The CAA was an integral part of BJP’s manifesto for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The Parliament enacted it on December 11, 2019, after the BJP government came into power.
According to the CAA notification, “The CAA rules will be called Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) Rules, 2024, and it shall come into force with immediate effect with the declaration in the Gazette of India today. As per CAA Rules, 2024, the application of the applicant will be entertained for the grant of citizenship by registration or naturalization by persons eligible under section 6B. An application from a person eligible under section 6B, for a grant of citizenship by registration or naturalization, shall not be entertained.”
