Ravi Bopara suggested that players like Jos Buttler and Sam Curran are definitely going to be part of the discussion.

Former England player Ravi Bopara has reacted to reports of Indian Premier League franchises trying to persuade England players to quit international cricket with lucrative contracts as they want him to play franchise cricket for a full year . A report in Times London suggested that six England players have been offered big contracts in the range of £5 million to stars as IPL franchise owners now have teams in other country’s T20 leagues including SA20, ILT20 and MLC T20. has bought

Bopara said that talks were already on in this regard and it was going to happen when IPL franchise owners take over in other leagues as well.

“It was coming. It’s been the conversation around the county circuit and cricket in general. It was always going to happen, especially after IPL teams started acquiring teams around the world – in the South African league and the US in the major leagues coming in. We have already seen them acquiring teams in the CPL to recruit up-and-coming West Indian players. That was the beginning,” Bopara said on the BBC Test Match Special podcast.

Bopara suggested that players like Jos Buttler and Sam Curran are definitely going to be part of the discussions with the IPL team owners as both the players have been consistent performers in the IPL over the years.

“I am not at all surprised by the development. I am sure Jos Buttler, Sam Curran will be part of that discussion. They both will definitely be part of the discussion,” Bopara said.

While the original Times London report did not mention which franchises were in the running to offer multi-million contracts to England’s top cricketers, there was no mention of which players were involved in the discussions.

The former England cricketer further explained why England players might consider taking big contracts from IPL team owners.

“It’s a real thing for players to think about their big money. If they’re looking at 3-year or 5-year long contracts, it’s a serious issue for players. If one of them’s England career is coming to an end If you are thinking that you have only 2-3 years left in your England career, you can think that this is a better career for me, Bopara said.
