The Union Budget session of Parliament will begin from Monday (January 31) this year. The session will be held in two parts, with the first part ending on February 11. On Monday, on the first day, the President will address the members of both the Houses after which copies of his address will be laid on the Table.

Here’s the full schedule of Union Budget 2022:

  1. The Economic Survey 2021-22 will be presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Lok Sabha on January 31, 2022.
  2. The Union Budget for 2022-23 will be presented in the Lok Sabha by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on 1 February and its copy will be laid on the table of the Rajya Sabha.
  3. The Finance Minister will present the budget on February 1, 2022 at 11:30 am.
  4. From February 2 to February 11, the sitting of the house is to be held from 4.00 pm to 9.00 pm.
  5. The first part of the budget session will have 10 sittings from January 31 to February 11, while the second part will have 19 sittings from March 14 to April 8.
  6. During the first part of the session, members will be accommodated in the Lok Sabha Chamber and its gallery (except the Press Gallery) and the Rajya Sabha Chamber and its gallery (except the Press Gallery).
  7. A total of 29 sittings will be held during the entire budget session, for which the time allotted is nine and a half hours.
  8. In this period, the government will bring out its legislative agenda and raise issues of immediate public concern.

The Upper House would have reduced the Zero Hour by half to 30 minutes per day, with a total of 13 hours and 30 minutes for raising issues of public importance, besides holding papers and reports during the 27 sittings. The question hour will be of 27 hours. A total of 15 hours have been earmarked for the work of private members during the session. Private Members’ Bills will be taken up for consideration on Thursday as Friday is a holiday.

“It is left only 79 hours and 30 minutes to discuss the issues of urgent public concern under the calling attention and consider and pass the bills proposed by the government as short-term discussions”, the officials said. .

The Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address to the members of both the Houses and the discussion on the General Budget-2022-23 constitute the major items of business of the House. During the 2021 budget session, the President’s Motion of Thanks was discussed for 15 hours 37 minutes and the Union Budget was discussed for 10 hours 43 minutes: The Rajya Sabha accounted for more than 52 percent of the total available time in 2021-22.
