BTS: HYBE Clarifies K-Pop Group’s ‘Hitus’ Status; J-Hope to make solo debut with new album

South Korean agency HYBE has clarified that BTS members are not going on a hiatus but will focus on their solo work. The statement was issued after BTS members RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook said they were going into a hiatus. He made the announcement during the Festa 2022 Live dinner. While the group spoke in Korean, the word gap was included in the video’s subtitles. As expected, fans got emotional after the announcement but the agency jumped to clarify BTS’ statement.

The agency clarified that BTS is not going on hiatus. Instead, the Bangtan Boys will focus on their individual work. “BTS isn’t taking a hiatus. Members will focus more on solo projects at this time,” the statement said, as reported by The Associated Press.

“BTS will start a new chapter that combines team and individual activities. It will be a time for each member to grow through different activities, and BTS will become a long-lasting team in the future. We hope this will continue to be a source of nutrition for us. To this end, we will actively support it at the label level,” read the agency’s statement to Neusen.

Hours after the statement, the K-Pop Herald reported that J-Hope would be the first member to make his solo debut. International news outlets stated that other members of the band would also release solo projects in the future. It has also been reported that BTS will release its variety program “Run! BTS.”

We can’t wait!

During the Festa dinner, BTS insisted that they need to take a break to find their voice and direction again. They will also work on their personal projects from now on, starting with J-Hope, who is all set to perform as a solo act at the Lollapalooza Music Festival. “This is also a new direction for us as a company, the attitude towards solo projects has changed,” he said. While BTS as a band will be on a break, all members will release their individual music at this time.
