BSE listed companies valued at $3.54tn; Probably 5th highest globally: CEO Ashish Chauhan – Times of India

New Delhi: Major exchange BSE on Thursday raised the market valuation of all its listed companies to $3.54 trillion, with its CEO Ashish Chauhan saying it could probably be the fifth highest in the world.
Helped by a record rally in equities, the market capitalization of BSE-listed companies hit their all-time peak of Rs 2,60,78,355.12 crore at close of trading on Thursday.
In a tweet, Chouhan said, “Market cap of companies listed on BSE Rs 260.78 lakh crore, Rs: USD exchange rate at Rs 73.51 per dollar, India crossed the market cap of $3.54 trillion today on September 16, 2021. Perhaps, 5th highest market capitalization country in the world.”
Although it is difficult to obtain accurate comparable data on a real-time basis for different stock markets globally due to the different time zones, the most valuable markets include the US (over $50 trillion), China (over $12 trillion), Japan. (about $7.5) included. trillion), Hong Kong (over $6.5 trillion) and the UK (over $3.5 trillion).
In its third consecutive session of gains on Thursday, the 30-share BSE benchmark Sensex jumped 417.96 points or 0.71 per cent to reach its new closing peak of 59,141.16. During the day, it rose 481.09 points to reach its all-time high of 59,204.29.
The benchmark Sensex has gained 963.4 points in three days. Investors have become rich by more than Rs 4.46 lakh crore in three sessions of market rally.
The market capitalization of all listed companies on the exchange touched $3 trillion on May 24 this year.
Despite the pandemic crisis, the market capitalization (m-cap) reached $2.5 trillion on December 16, 2020.
The exchange saw the valuation of listed firms crossing the $1 trillion mark on May 28, 2007.
The journey from $1 trillion to $1.5 trillion was completed in 2,566 days, or just seven years on June 6, 2014.
The market capitalization of its listed companies reached $2 trillion on July 10, 2017 – taking 1,130 days from the $1.5 trillion level.
From there, it took 1,255 days to cross the $2.5 trillion mark on December 16, 2020. It reached the $3-trillion milestone on May 24, 2021.
So far this year, the benchmark index has gained 11,389.83 points or 23.85 per cent.
