Playing for Kolkata Knight Riders, Brendon McCullum made an impressive start to the tournament by scoring 158 against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first match of the Indian Premier League.

talking about those moments before India Batsman Robin Uthappa recalled Brendon McCullum’s brilliant knock of 158 in the first IPL game between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore. It gave the league a great start in 2008 and is still regarded as one of the greatest ever.

In a new episode of Legends Lounge, titled Unforgettable Moments of Tata IPL, JioCinema’s expert panellist Uthappa said, “McCoolum’s century in the first match, the way he set the tone of the IPL. I think it was destiny. It was brilliant and definitely a moment that stands out,” Uthappa recalled.

Uthappa further recalled the 2010 season when he was the CSK captain M S Dhoni Expressed emotions after defeating Kings XI Punjab by 54 runs in 29 balls.

“MS Dhoni showing emotion in a game in Dharamshala. My close friend Irfan (Pathan) was bowling, and Dhoni hit a six and slapped his own helmet. Very rarely in cricket do we see MS showing emotion. That one clip can never go from the minds of the people,” he said.

The former Indian batsman, who won the Orange Cap in 2014, rounded off his list by talking about the first IPL Double Super-Over between Mumbai and Punjab in 2020, which was eventually won by Punjab.

“That match will definitely stand out in IPL history. The chances of a second Super Over happening in cricket are incredibly low, but the IPL has seen that too,” Uthappa concluded.
