BREAKING: Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray resigns

New Delhi: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday (June 29) tendered his resignation after the Supreme Court allowed floor test, reported ANI. Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray also announced his resignation from the post of Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC). Earlier, the Supreme Court on Thursday (June 30) allowed a floor test in the Maharashtra Assembly in which the Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government will have to prove its majority. The top court also issued notice on a petition by Shiv Sena Chief Whip Sunil Prabhu and said it would be subject to the outcome of the present petition.

In a Facebook Live, Uddhav Thackeray also said that he respects the apex court’s decision not to stay the Maharashtra Governor’s direction to his government to take the floor test.

“I want to express my gratitude to the people of NCP and Congress for supporting me. From Shiv Sena, Anil Parab, Subhash Desai and Aaditya Thackeray, these people were present only when the resolution was passed, while people from NCP and Congress also supported the resolution,” ANI quoted Thackeray as saying.

On changing the names of some places in the Maharashtra cabinet, Uddhav Thackeray said,

“I am satisfied that we have officially renamed Aurangabad to Sambhaji Nagar and Osmanabad to Dharashiv – the cities named by Balasaheb Thackeray.”
