GAIL said in a statement that the fire was caused by unauthorized third party damage to its gas network. “The local contractor attached to the Water and Sewerage Agency caused damage without prior notice/consent of GAIL Gas and did not even inform about the gas leak and fled the site,” GAIL claimed in the statement.
It further mentioned that the gas had caught fire in a nearby residential area in which 2 people were reported to have minor burns due to the accident.
“GAIL Gas Quick Response Team (QRT) and fire brigade reached the site in less than 5 minutes and doused the fire and brought the situation under control,” GAIL said in the statement.
This is a developing story. More details are awaited.
