BPL card circular: JIPMER says it is to make hospital procedures ‘patient friendly’ Puducherry News – Times of India

Puducherry: Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (jipmer) has clarified that its recent circular patients to produce below the poverty line The card (ration card) issued by their respective states to avail free treatment at the institute is aimed at making hospital procedures ‘more patient-friendly’.
“There has been some speculation in the news media about a recent notice by the hospital administration of the institute. The institute would like to clarify that the notice is actually to make the hospital procedures more patient friendly. It is below poverty line. This is to be done by documenting the line status of new patients at a time i.e., during the initial registration and entering the certificate details in the hospital system. This will allow the patients to avail the services, who have been so and are required to return without any interruption to their native place for obtaining income certificate every time,” a release from JIPMER said.
The institute receives many patients from far flung areas for advanced and costly investigations, interventions and treatments.
“Some of these services are provided free of cost only to people below the poverty line, as per government regulations. Currently, patients requiring these services often have to travel back to their place of residence to obtain an income certificate. is compelled – because such certificates have a short validity. Furthermore, the income limits for such benefits vary from state to state, leading to confusion as to whether a particular income is considered eligible for such specific treatment. This causes a lot of inconvenience to the patients and their family members and sometimes even leads to delay in treatment,” the release said.
The Institute further clarified that at present almost all outpatient departments (OPD) Issuance of medicines by the pharmacy to the patients and free treatment including regular laboratory tests and X-rays is and will continue.
“The present measure is only to facilitate treatment to the poor so that they can access the most sophisticated inpatient treatment without the need of any additional documentation. This measure will undoubtedly help the people immensely,” the release said.
