The Congress won a substantial majority in the Karnataka assembly elections held on May 10, ousting the BJP from power.

Rahul Gandhi has said that the BJP will be “demolished” by the Congress in the next three-four assembly elections, asserting that it has the basic necessities needed to defeat the ruling party, which lacks majority support. Is. Indian population.

Gandhi, who is on a three-city tour of the US, made the remarks on Thursday at a reception hosted for him by eminent Indian-American Frank Islam.

“People have a tendency to believe that this type of juggernaut of the RSS and the BJP is invincible. This is not the case. I’ll make a little prediction here. You will see that the next three or four elections, which we fight directly with the BJP, will be lost.

“I can tell you right now that he is going to have a really tough time in these assembly elections. We will do with them what we have done in Karnataka. But if you ask the Indian media, it is not going to happen.

In the assembly elections held on 10 May in Karnataka, the Congress won a substantial majority and ousted the BJP from power.

The visiting leader told an invited group of Indian-Americans, members of the think-tank community and lawmakers that the Indian press is currently presenting an overly favorable version of the BJP.

“Please note that 60 per cent people of India do not vote for BJP, do not vote for Narendra Modi. This is something you have to remember. BJP has tools of noise in hand, so they can shout, they can shout, they can distort, they can shout, and they are very good at doing that. But he does not have the vast majority of the Indian population (supporting him),” he said.

Responding to another question, Gandhi said he was confident that the Congress would be able to defeat the BJP.

Assembly elections will be held in five states – Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Telangana and Mizoram – later this year, setting the stage for the crucial general elections in 2024.

“Rebuilding the democratic architecture will not be easy. It will be difficult. It is going to take time. But we are confident that we have the basic requirements that are required to defeat the BJP,” said the 52-year-old former Congress party president.

He said, ‘You will hear from the media that it is impossible to defeat Modi. Much of it is exaggerated. Modi is very weak. There is huge unemployment in the country, there is a huge rise in prices in the country, and in India these things sting people very, very quickly and very hard,” he said.

“But it’s been a very interesting time for me to see how this process goes. I never would have thought democracy is attacked like this. This is the way democracy is attacked. It’s been great for me.”

The Wayanad (Kerala) MP was disqualified from the Lok Sabha earlier this year after he was convicted by a Surat court in a criminal defamation case over his “Modi surname” remark in 2019.

“These are good things for me because they teach me and they make it very clear what I have to do and how I have to do it. I thank you all for your support, your love and affection. It means a lot to me. matters, especially coming to the United States and seeing that there are so many people willing to fight for Indian democracy and security,” he said.
