Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday claimed that the BJP will form the next government in Tripura on its own strength in the February 16 assembly elections.

Sarma accompanied Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha to file nomination from Town Bardowali seat on Monday, the last day for filing nominations. He was accompanied by Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh.

He said that the party would emerge victorious because of the development in the northeastern state during the last five years under the BJP-led government. “The BJP will be able to form the next government in Tripura on the basis of the development done during the last five years,” he said. The saffron party has decided to contest the elections alone to ensure the unity and development of the state and the rights of the people. Rajeev Bhattacharya.

“There should be no doubt about BJP’s victory in the assembly elections on the basis of developments in Tripura, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for the country and the face of the chief minister,” he said.

He said the saffron party has an alliance with the IPFT as in the previous term as it is an “old friend”.

Hitting out at the opposition, Sarma, who is also the president of the BJP’s North East Democratic Alliance, said the Congress was “a big void in the entire country while the CPI(M) is nowhere in the world”.

“If we add two zeros the result will be zero,” he said.

On BJP’s election issue for the coming elections, Sarma said that BJP believes only in development and this will be its main card. “BJP has only one card – that is development. We do not have any other card like charity or extortion.

Saha posted on social media, “Today I filed nomination from Town Bordovali seat in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ji, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh ji and Dr. Sambit Patra ji. Thousands of karyakartas (party workers) were with me before filing nomination. I am sure BJP will get a landslide victory.

A senior party leader said that all BJP candidates for 55 assembly constituencies will submit their nomination papers on Monday.

Former Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb will accompany party candidates in Dharmanagar sub-division of North Tripura district during the filing of nominations.

The BJP is contesting 55 seats in the 60-member Tripura Assembly and has given five seats to ally IPFT.

In the 2018 assembly elections, the BJP won 36 out of 60 seats and its ally, the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), won eight seats.
