BJP returns to drawing board to prepare for 2022 battle

Under the chairmanship of BJP National President JP Nadda, an important meeting was held at the party headquarters on Saturday regarding the upcoming five state elections.

Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Goa and Punjab will go to the polls in the first half of 2022.

Several ministers in the Modi government including Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Smriti Irani, Piyush Goyal, Dharmendra Pradhan, Arjun Munda, Prahlad Joshi, Mansukh, Nirmala Sitharaman, Narendra Tomar, Mandaviya and Hardeep Puri were present in the meeting.

The meeting was mainly to assess where the party is now with respect to the state elections and also the scope for improvement in the coming few months as construction continues in these states.

The need for better coordination between the Center and the states has been once again highlighted, especially when the right message needs to go to the grassroots level in tough Corona times.

Ministers have been asked to hold regular meetings in groups of 10 and tell them what the Center has achieved, including focusing on key areas such as the Jal Jeevan Mission and the Immunization for All programmes. The ministers will need to communicate regularly and engage with parliamentarians on the achievements of the Modi government and what is being done to improve the lives of the common man and carry forward the various organization chain.

The party is also contemplating to put in place a proper mechanism to solicit feedback from the people and reach the top of the party and the government in a systematic manner.

It may also be recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with JP Nadda and BL Santosh held meetings in batches with ministers to understand where each ministry stands and their contribution and what areas need improvement. Each of these meetings, which took place in a batch of 7 to 8 ministers, lasted for more than 4 to 5 hours and the Prime Minister held at least 5 to 6 such meetings.

In the coming days, the BJP president is likely to hold several such meetings especially for the poll-bound states so that the party can do a reality check and identify areas of improvement at the earliest.

It also comes in the backdrop of BJP’s organization general secretary BL Santosh’s visit to several states including Uttar Pradesh, Tripura, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. In some states, problems within the organization and leadership crisis are of concern to the party.
