BJP, BSP sweat to grab Azamgarh from Samajwadi Party in upcoming by-elections

With the by-election for Azamgarh parliamentary seat approaching, almost all the major political parties are sweating hard to reach the voters. While the Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded Dinesh Lal Yadav, popularly known as Nirahau, to attract Yadav voters, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has fielded Shah Alam alias Guddu Jamali to attract Muslim voters. Dropped into the field.

Meanwhile, the Samajwadi Party wants to retain the seat vacated by the SP chief. Akhilesh Yadav fielded his cousin Dharmendra Yadav. Apart from these, 10 more candidates are trying their luck in the upcoming Azamgarh parliamentary by-election to be held on June 23.

In the 2019 general election, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav was elected MP from Azamgarh seat. In the assembly elections held this year, the SP had won all the ten seats in the district. SP chief Akhilesh had also won his first assembly election from Mainpuri’s Karhal seat and decided to continue as an MLA. Akhilesh had then vacated this seat as an MP, due to which a by-election had to be held for the Azamgarh seat.

The interesting thing is that even during the Modi wave, the BJP has never been able to perform well in Azamgarh, which is considered a stronghold of the Samajwadi Party.

In 2019, BJP candidate Nirahua got around 3.6 lakh votes, while Akhilesh Yadav got over 6 lakh votes. It seems that SP does not want to take any chances in Azamgarh and this is the reason why Akhilesh Yadav’s cousin Dharmendra Yadav has been fielded for the by-election at the last minute.

The BSP has fielded Guddu Jamali and announced a list of 40 star campaigners for the seat, which also includes BSP chief Mayawati herself. It can be gauged from this that how serious is the BSP about the competition in this stronghold of SP.

BJP has also announced a long list of star campaigners for its candidate Nirhua. Many Bhojpuri singers and stars are campaigning for Nirhua in Azamgarh. BJP is also focusing on booth management as the party has set up 311 Shakti Kendras to reach out to voters with the help of various fronts.

BJP stalwarts are trying to reach out to voters on the basis of ground reports from various cells. Preparations are being made to reach 10 lakh voters of the parliamentary constituency. BJP has prepared a big plan at the booth level. To implement its strategy on the ground, conferences are being organized by dividing it into 311 Shakti Kendras of eight booths in 22 divisions.

On the other hand, SP leaders are busy in their ‘cycle yatra’ (cycle journey) to reach the voters of Azamgarh. SP candidate Dharmendra Yadav has said that the workers of various fronts of the party will reach 10 lakh voters and lay the foundation of victory.

According to the information, ten SP MLAs are engaged in reaching out to the people of Azamgarh along with various teams of youth, women, backward, scheduled tribe, farmers and minority front.

Apart from this, the teams formed at the divisional and sector level are holding separate conferences at a Shakti Kendra of the booths, in which different members of different frontal organizations of SP are participating.
