VARANASI: Workers of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) just before the announcement of the final results of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections (BJP) attended the ceremony in Varanasi, which is also the Prime Minister’s parliamentary constituency Narendra ModiThursday afternoon.
Raising slogans of ‘Yogi-Modi’ Jai Shri RamJai Shri Ram gathered with party flags at Gulab Bagh party office in Sigra area to express happiness over the widening margin of votes in favor of party candidates. Party workers, including women, danced to the beat of drums and ‘shankhnaad’ (blowing of conch shell) amidst colors and rose petals and bursting of firecrackers. They sprinkled ‘gulal’ (dry colour) on each other with rose petals, covering the road leading to the party office.
“The mandate of the people in this election is a clear indication that Yogi The Adityanath government was successful in fulfilling their hopes and aspirations to a great extent. People voted for the spirit of development, good governance and security,” said Mahesh Chandra Srivastava, the party’s Kashi region president.
BJP supporters celebrated in other parts of the city as well. A group of Hindu Yuva Vahini activists in the Teliabagh area arranged a musical system playing songs in praise of Yogi Adityanath. Besides this, small groups of BJP supporters were also seen celebrating the occasion in other areas like Jaddumandi Luka area, Jai Prakash Nagar and Nirala Nagar. “We were confident of BJP’s victory,” said Ram Vilas Singh, a Jai Prakash Nagar supporter.
“Ae chandan lagwa liye, BJP ki sarkar ban rahi hai” (Come on, apply sandalwood paste on your forehead, BJP is forming the government), a priest at Dashashwamedh Ghat can be heard calling out the pilgrims. Sankat Prasad, who sells flowers and puja items at the ghat, said most people were expecting BJP’s victory in the elections.
Meanwhile, several Muslim women associated with Muslim Mahila Foundation and volunteers of Vishal Bharat Sansthan also celebrated the occasion by beating drums and bursting firecrackers in Lamhi village. The victory of Modi and Yogi is the victory of Muslim women. We are thankful to the people for re-electing the Yogi government for the safety of Muslim women,” said MMF President Nazneen Ansari.
